It all started in the early 1920's when, Howard E. Rohrer Sr., started hauling schoolchildren with a horse and wagon in Allen’s Cove, just south of Duncannon, Pennsylvania. The early horse-and-wagon evolved to a couple of wooden school bus bodies on car chassis. Over the years business grew - slowly. Howard E. Jr., bought the company from the founding father in 1967. At the time, there were 14 school buses, serving the Susquenita and East Pennsboro School Districts.

That’s the way Rohrer Bus began.

Fast forward to 1975. 1975 was a busy year for Rohrer’s. Rohrer’s Bus Sales was formed, as Rohrer became the distributor for Wayne school buses in the state of Pennsylvania. Later in, December 1975 the first motor coach was purchased as Rohrer bus service ventured into the motor coach charter and tour market. The business continued with steady planned growth. It grew too large for the outdated facility on the family farm. In 1976, ground was broken for a new modern 6,800 square foot service facility. Then, in January of 1977, Rohrer Bus Sales and Service moved to their present location on 11 and 15 midway between Duncannon and Marysville. This building was bursting at the seams by 1982 when a 2,700 square foot body shop was added.

Growth continued. By 1988, Rohrer Bus had grown to a fleet of 220 school buses and 23 motor coaches. The Duncannon facility was once again bursting at the seams. A total expansion and remodeling project began. By January of 1989, the service department was moving into a new 19,800 square foot state of the art facility with three in-ground lifts, a computerized alignment rack, and a 20’x 75’ paint booth, capable of any needs of the bus industry. Once the service department moved from its old digs, the existing building was renovated with new modern offices for the sales and operating companies. Four bays of the old service facility were converted into NAPA Auto Parts retail store and warehouse to serve the public and the Rohrer Companies.

Then, in 1995, the Wayne Corporation shut its doors. At the time, Rohrer Bus Sales were representing Wayne with a seven state area of sales responsibility, along with Champion and Braun commercial and accessible vehicles. The closing of Wayne Corporation was only a small speed bump for Rohrer Bus. The fleet continued to grow, with a branch being established in the Selinsgrove area. The Selinsgrove branch operation was later moved to it’s present home in rural Lewisburg.

In 1999, Rohrer Bus Sales became the Thomas Bus Dealer for the state of Pennsylvania. Rohrer’s years of experience in the sales and operation of school and commercial buses, along with Rohrer reputation for customer service long after the sale made Rohrer the logical choice when Thomas Built Buses was looking for a full service dealer to service the Pennsylvania market.

Today, Rohrer Bus Sales offers and complete range of buses and vans. From 7-10 passenger school vans, to 96 passenger school buses, accessible vans to commercial transit buses, to trolleys. Rohrer is a full service dealer, with factory-trained technicians providing factory-approved service and warranty repairs for the ENTIRE bus. The Rohrer fleet has grown to over 500 vehicles serving 14 school districts in 10 counties.
